Mission Statement

“To lessen the burden of life on POLIO and CEREBRAL PALSY affected individuals and their families”

Doctors, paramedics and donors have joined hands with each other for this noble cause. Right from prevention to rehabilitation, ONE WINDOW SERVICE includes immunization, early diagnosis, counselling, corrective surgery, caliper workshop, socioeconomic rehabilitation, each step towards definite freedom and happiness.

A CONSCIOUS SOCIAL DECISION ON PART OF MEDICAL FRATERNITY,
LEADING TO ABSOLUTELY FREE SERVICES FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE.
“A small step towards humanity … but …. A large leap for the less fortunate”

The Origin
It was agony to see handicapped children dragging themselves on their buttocks or walking like quadruped animals, rather doggishly without any hope for better life. Few friends thought, "Can we make these children walk on their two legs ?" The answer was "YES' and this led to the birth of Polio Foundation in Ahmedabad in 1987.

The idea took a concrete shape when Specialist doctors, Donors and Social Workers came together and Polio Foundation started pulsating in1987. The mission to give 'A Ray of Hope' by giving meaning to their lives has begun.

The Beginning
The main objective of Polio Foundation is to help the physically handicapped children by way of corrective surgery and giving them necessary appliances so that they can walk on their feet without anybody's assistance. This will improve psychological and physical development of the child coupled with immense happiness to the family. Initially from 1987 to 1992, the polio corrective operations were done only on Sundays but since March 1992, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has given special premises, a three-storied hospital in the heart of the city on a token rent of Rs. 1011- per year, where the work is being carried on a daily basis. All treatments, care and calipers are provided without any cost to the patients.
