Heena’s is one more case where the foundation has been inspirational in providing the healing touch to a handicapped person’s life. Heena contracted polio since childhood and the financial condition notwithstanding she was operated for the same in Mumbai and provided calipers to walk around. But subsequently she found it difficult to carry out her daily activities and hence stopped wearing the calipers after two years. With much difficulty she completed her elementary schooling and did her grad uation in Primary Teacher’s Training course (PTC).
Yet Heena was in much pain and was in constant agony. To ease her pain, she was referred to various doctors and subsequently landed up at the doorstep of Polio foundation. She was successfully operated upon and then her life has really changed for the better.
She is now able to stand up straight and perform her daily activities without much discomfort. Her gait strength has increased and her walk is brisk almost like a normal person. She is now able to walk with a walking stick also. Hence forth she is now employed as a primary school teacher at a village called Damnagar, taluka – Gariyadhar, district – Amreli, Saurashtra.
She is a shining example of how the Polio Foundation has rehabilitated a handicapped person’s life and med her independent.
